BVAS
Birmingham Vasculitis Activity Score. 56 items in 9 organ systems, each recorded as None, Persistent or New/Worse. Persistent (0 to 33) and New/Worse (0 to 63) scores are reported separately.
For clinicians only. This tool is for healthcare professionals and clinical education only. It does not diagnose, replace clinical judgement, or replace specialist assessment. Any decisions about a patient must be based on full clinical assessment, investigations where appropriate, and current clinical guidelines.
Separate Persistent / New-Worse scoring (matching MDApp reference)
- Record only findings you attribute to active vasculitis.
- New/Worse means new or worse within the previous 4 weeks. Persistent means present but not new or worse in that time.
- At a first assessment, use the absolute creatinine bands as appropriate. Only one creatinine band can be selected.
- Damage is assessed separately with the VDI. Do not exclude a finding merely because of how long it has been present.
- This tool uses the reference's split-score method: each status is summed and capped within each system, and the two totals are never added together. It is not presented as the unified BVAS v3 scoring method.
- Single anonymous assessment. Nothing is saved. Please do not enter patient names or identifiers.
Creatinine bands are mutually exclusive: choosing one clears the other two.
Select a status for each relevant finding, confirm review, then calculate.
Higher scores reflect more recorded activity. This tool offers no severity bands, diagnosis or treatment recommendation.
This implementation follows the reference's separate Persistent and New/Worse method; it has not been independently clinically validated or endorsed by the instrument's authors.
